Recipe Tips for Truffles:

  • Cream Cheese – Make sure before mixing ingredients that the cream cheese has softened to room temperature. This allows for the mixture to smooth and creamy.
  • Mixing Cake Mix – Slowly add in the cake mix to the cream cheese. The mixture will be thick. We recommend mixing with a stand mixer to easily combine the ingredients.
  • Cookie Scoop – To easily scoop the cookie dough, use a cookie scoop. This helps to make the truffles even and perfectly round.
  • Prepare Baking Sheet – Feel free to line a baking sheet with parchment paper or wax paper. This helps for an easily clean up.
  • Holiday Gifts – These truffles are perfect to wrap as holiday gifts. They even look great on a dessert tray to serve for Christmas dinner.
  • Melting Chocolate – You can melt the chocolate in a double boiler or melt in a microwave. If melting chocolate watch and stir it to ensure it does not burn.
  • Rolling into Sugar – You can roll the truffles in the sanding sugar with a fork or a toothpick. This helps to ensure that all edges are covered.
  • Christmas Cake Pops –  Turn these cake balls into cake pops by inserting a popsicle stick before coating.
  • Candy Melts –  Dip the cake balls in melted candy coating using Christmas colors. I like to use Christmas tree colors.

Variation Ideas:

  • Cake Mix – We used a white cake mix to make this recipe. Feel free to use whatever your cake mix you prefer.
  • Sprinkles – We used sanding sugar on these truffles, but you can use other types of sprinkles. Red, green sprinkles or white sprinkles are always a fun and festive look.
  • Dip into Milk Chocolate – For an even more delicious treat, melt chocolate in microwave to dip the truffles in. We recommend using a microwave-safe bowl. You can melt white chocolate chips, dark chocolate, and semi sweet chocolate.
  • Crush Peppermint – For a minty flavor, roll the truffles into crushed peppermint.
  • Nuts – If you like nuts on your truffles, crush up pecans, walnuts or almonds for a crunchy texture.
  • Cocoa Powder – For a delicious texture, roll the truffles in cocoa powder. This really enhances the chocolate flavor.

Can you Freeze Christmas Truffles?

We love to make holiday candy and this is always on the list. You can easily double the batch and freeze the Christmas Truffles.

We like to flash freeze the truffles by placing on a baking sheet separately. Then placing in the freezer to freeze for about an hour.

Once they are slightly frozen, place in them in a zip lock bag. This way you can take out the amount you need to serve.

How to Store Leftovers:

Refrigerate the leftovers in an airtight container for up to 1 week. We like to cover in a plastic wrap before storing.
