These Christmas Tree Cake Pops remind me of the Little Debbie Christmas tree cakes that come out during the holiday season. We love to prepare holiday desserts and this is one of my favorites.

These cake pops are perfect to prepare for all your holiday dinners and a Christmas party. You can also wrap up and give to your neighbors. They would also be perfect as a centerpiece for your holiday table. See more Christmas cake pop recipes.

Why We Love These Cake Pops

Cake pops are fun to make as it starts with a cake mix and combine with frosting. This allows you to easily form into a Christmas Tree for a fun and festive dessert.

These bites size treats are simple to prepare and always a family favorite.

Ingredients

Ingredients needed - cake mix, vanilla frosting, green candy melts, M&M's, star sprinkles, sticks

Recipe Variations

  • Change the Cake – Feel free to use any flavor of cake to make these cake pops.
  • Melted Chocolate – We used candy melts in this recipe, but you can also melt almond bark or chocolate chips. You can even add food coloring to change the colors.
  • Cake Ball – Feel to make cake balls instead of cones to make this Christmas treat.

How to Make Cake Pop Christmas Tree

  • Step 1 – Make and Bake Cake – Make cake batter and bake in the oven according to box instructions in a 9X13 pan. Then let the cake cool at room temperature.
  • Step 2 – Prepare Baked Cake – Remove the cake from the pan.  Remove the brown outside layer from the cake and throw it away.

Step 3 – Crumble Cake – Crumble up the remaining cake into a large bowl.

Step 4 – Combine Cake with Frosting – Add the frosting to your crumbled cake and stir everything together until well combined.

Step 5 – Form Cake into Cones – Take approximately 1 tablespoon of the mixture and form it into a cone shape and place on a baking sheet line with parchment paper.

Step 6 – Melt Candy Melts – Place the green candy melt in a microwave safe bowl.  Heat in 30 second intervals, stirring after each interval. Be careful not to over heat. Dip the end of lollipop sticks or skewers into the melted green candy melt.  Then place in the cone.

Step 7 – Dip Cake into Melted Candy Melt – Then dip the entire tree portion of the cake pop in the green candy melt. Remove excess chocolate.  Use a toothpick to make the candy melt resemble the branches on a Christmas tree.

Step 8 – Decorate Cone – Then place the stick of cake pops in a block of styro foam. Top the cake pops with the M&Ms as ornaments and top with a star sprinkle on top before the candy coating dries.

How to Decorate Christmas Cake Pops

These Christmas Cake Pops are so fun to decorate.

  • We used M&M’s to decorate these Christmas Tree’s but you can use any type of candy. You can even use sprinkles or sanding sugar.
  • Candy Melts are a great way to get the perfect green. Feel free to drizzle the top of cakes with melted white chocolate or white candy melts for a fun and festive look.
  • Mini chocolate chips are also a great option to decorate the Christmas tree with.

Recipe Tips

  • Cool Cake – Before crumbling cake, make sure you allow the cake to cool completely to room temperature.
  • Cake – We recommend removing the brown edges of the cake before crumbling.
  • Mixing Cake and Frosting – Completely combine the cake and frosting together. This helps to form the cake into the cones.
  • Freeze Cake Pops – Once you have inserted the stick in the cake pops, make sure to freeze to easily dip into the melted candy melts.
  • Line Baking Sheet – Make sure to line with baking sheet with wax paper for easy clean up.

Do I Need to Use a Mold to Make Christmas Tree?

No, there is no need to use a mold. You will shape the cake mixture into the shape of a Christmas Tree.

Can these Cake Pops be Made Ahead of Time?

Yes, this dessert can easily be prepared ahead of time. We actually recommend making ahead of time, since you have to give them time to freeze. These cakes serve better when made ahead of time.

How to Store Leftover Cake Pops

These Cake Pops are best stored in an air tight container at room temperature. They will last about 5 days if stored properly.

  • Continue this process until all the cake mixture is formed into cone shapes.

  • Dip the end of lollipop sticks into the melted green candy melt.  Then gently place each cake pop stick into the larger end of the cone about halfway through.
  • Place in the freezer for 10-15 minutes.
  • Then dip the entire tree portion of the cake pop in the green candy melt.  Use a toothpick to make the candy melt resemble the branches on a Christmas tree.
  • Then place the stick of cake pops in a block of styrofoam.  Top the cake pops with the M&Ms as ornaments and top with a star sprinkle on top before the candy coating dries.
