We love making chocolate covered strawberries for many different holidays. But these Chocolate Covered Strawberry Christmas Trees is the ultimate twist.

Why This Recipe Works

A whole strawberry is dipped in melted chocolate and placed on an Oreo cookie base. This holiday treat is perfect for the kids to help with all the steps.

These Christmas Tree Chocolate Covered Strawberry are perfect to serve on your dessert table. They would also be perfect for your dinner table centerpiece.

Green candy melts, strawberries, Oreo Cookies, sprinkles, yellow star candies

Variation Ideas

  • Cookies – We used Oreo cookies, but you can use any type of cookies. Feel free to use wafers, gingersnaps, or oatmeal cookies.
  • Melted Chocolate – We love using candy melts because of all the different colors. But you can also use white chocolate with food coloring. Any candy coating will work on this recipe.
  • Tree Topper Star Sprinkles – If you are unable to find the little stars to use on the top of the tree. Feel free to use yellow sprinkles.
  • Decorating – We topped with chocolate covered strawberries with sprinkles. But you can drizzle the top with white icing.
  • Powdered Sugar – To make the strawberries have the look of snow, dust with powdered sugar.

How to Make Chocolate Covered Strawberry Christmas Tree

Step 1 – Prepare the Strawberries – Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat and clean the strawberries. Cut the top off of the bottom of the strawberry. To remove the stems and make  a base for the trees.

Step 2 – Melt Candy Melt – Add the candy melt to a microwave safe bowl. Microwave starting with 1 minute, stir.  Heat for 20-30 second intervals, stirring after each time. 

  • Step 3 – Continue until Melted – Stop just before candy is completely melted, then stir until it’s completely melted. This is to prevent the candy from burning.
  • Step 4 – Oreos on baking sheet – Lay the Oreos out evenly on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.  
  • Step 5 – Top with Candy Melt – Place a small dollop of the candy melt mixture. Into the center of an Oreo cookie.

Step 6 – Dip Strawberries – Use a toothpick to dip each of the strawberries into the candy melt mixture.  Then place the strawberry of top of the center of the cookie.

Step 7 – Add Sprinkles – Sprinkle the strawberry with the sprinkles and place a star on top before the candy melt hardens.  

  • Step 8 – Coat all Strawberries – Continue this process until all the strawberries are coated.  
  • Step 9 – Chill – Refrigerate for approximately 10 minutes to allow the chocolate to set.
  • Step 10 – Serve and Enjoy – Then they are ready to serve and enjoy.

Recipe Tips

  • Prepare Strawberries – Cut the base of each strawberry so they are flat. Make sure to clean and dry before dipping into melted chocolate.
  • Melting Chocolate – We melted the candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl. But you can also melt on stovetop in a double boiler with simmering water. Watch closely so the mixture does not burn and to stirring occasionally. Melt until desired consistency.
  • Top Oreo – To help the Strawberry to stick on the Oreo, top with a small amount of melted chocolate.
  • Dipping Strawberry – We dipped the strawberry with a toothpick, but you can also dip with a fork. You can also use a dipping tool making sure to remove excess candy melt.

How to Serve Chocolate Covered Strawberries

This holiday treat is great served for you next holiday party or dinner. I have even hosted a Christmas party with my kids friends, and used this as activity.

Everyone loved it and they took their chocolate covered strawberry home with them.

These are best served within 48 hours.  Store them in a covered container in the refrigerator.
