How to Make Cake Pops for Christmas
- Step 1 – Prepare Cake – Make cake and bake according to box instructions in a 9X13 pan in the oven. Then let the cake cool at room temperature.
Step 2 – Beat Frosting ingredients – Beat the butter and cream cheese together in a large bowl until smooth and fluffy. Then add in the vanilla extract.
Step 3 – Add in Powdered Sugar – Then slowly add in the powdered sugar until it’s all combined and smooth.
Step 4 – Crumble Cake – Remove the cake from the pan. Remove the outside layer from the cake and throw it away. Crumble up the remaining cake into a large bowl.
Step 5 – Add in Frosting – Add approximately ¼ cup of the frosting to your crumbled cake. Then stir everything together until well combined. You want the mixture to be moist but still be able to form it into balls.
Step 6 – Shape into balls – Shape mixture into about 24-36 cake balls (depending on their size). Place on a lined baking sheet with parchment paper. I used a cookie scoop to ensure that each one is approximately the same size.
Step 7 – Melt Candy Melt – Put the white candy melts in a small microwave safe bowl with the vegetable shortening. Dip each cake pop stick into the melted candy. Then place them into the cake balls about halfway into the balls.
Step 8 – Dip Balls – After the cake pops have been chilled, dip each cake pop into the melted candy melts. You may need to re-melt it if it has solidified some.
Step 9 – Remove Excess Chocolate – Make sure that the candy covers the cake pop completely.
- Step 10 – Roll balls in sprinkles – Then place the Christmas sprinkles in a shallow ball. Gently roll the candy coated cake pop in the bowl of sprinkles to coat the cake pop in the sprinkles.
- Step 11 – Work Quickly – You’ll want to make sure to work quickly. To coat the cake pops with the sprinkles before they dry.
- Step 12 – Allow to Dry – Then place the stick of cake pops in a block of Styrofoam. While the candy dries and solidifies.
- Step 13 – – Continue – Continue until all the cake pops have been covered.
- Step 14 – Serve and Enjoy – Once all the cake pops are dry, they are ready to serve and enjoy.
Recipe Tips
- Candy Melt Texture – If the melted candy melt is too thick, thin it out by adding more of the vegetable shortening. Add it slowly to the melted candy until it’s a good consistency.
- Line Baking Sheet – Make sure to line baking sheet for easy cleanup.
- Melting Candy Melts – It is important to melt the candy in 30 second intervals so it does not burn. It can very easily burn if it is cooked too fast.
How to Store Leftovers
