This Christmas Tree Coffee Cake is one of my favorite holiday recipes. There is no need for all purpose flour, cup sugar or other baking ingredients. All you need is crescents and a few toppings you have a delicious dessert.

Variation Ideas

  • Homemade Dough Mixture – Feel free to make a homemade dough with active dry yeast and melted butter. This creates a soft dough by combining dry ingredients with warm water and keeping in a warm place.
  • Toppings – You can brush the top with different types of glaze. We have even added chopped walnuts or chopped pineapple. You can also use red or green sugar to add a fun and festive look.

How to Make Christmas Tree Coffee Cake

  • Step 1 – Heat Oven – Preheat an oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

Step 2 – Prepare Dough – Unroll the crescent roll dough into 2 long rectangles and press all the seams to seals together.

Step 3 – Cut into Strips – Then cut each rectangle into 4 strips lengthwise.  Twist each of the strips several times.

Step 4 – Shape into a Tree – Use the twisted strips to form a tree shaped dough on the baking sheet.  Start at the top of the tree and slowly zigzag the dough down the sheet. Making each row longer than the row above it to form a tree shape.  At the bottom of the tree. Add a curl in the center for the tree trunk on the Christmas tree.

Step 6 – Top with Sugar – Sprinkle the sugar on top of the stiff dough after it’s formed. Bake for 12-15 minutes until the bread is slightly golden brown.  Carefully remove the bread from the baking sheet and place it on a serving tray.

Step 7 – Make Glaze – In a separate bowl, combine together the powdered sugar and orange juice for the glaze.

Step 8 – Drizzle with Glaze – Once the bread has cooled, drizzle the glaze on top of the bread. Then top with the halved candied cherries. Serve and Enjoy!

Recipe Tips

  • Prepare Crescent Roll – We recommend preparing the dough on a lightly floured surface. Pressing the dough together to form into one sheet and are smooth and elastic. .
  • Cut Strips – Try to make the strips even so they bake evenly.
  • Maraschino Cherries – Make sure the cherries halved so they lay flat on the tree.
  • Glaze – Blend the glaze ingredients in a small bowl. Stir or with a mixer combine at low speed.

Ingredients

  • 1 can Refrigerate Crescent Roll 8 ounces
  • 2 teaspoon Sugar

For the Glaze:

  • 1/2 cup Powdered Sugar
  • 2 teaspoon Orange Juice
  • Red and Green Candied Cherries cut in half
