What is Buckeye Pie?

If you are familiar with the traditional Buckeye candy, then you are going to love this Buckeye Pie. This pie has 3 layers and is the perfect combination of sweet and salty.

Crushed Oreo is combined with melted butter and pressed into a pie plate. Then a peanut butter layer is spread of the crushed Oreos. A chocolate ganache over the peanut butter and leaving a portion of the peanut butter visual. This allows it to closely resemble the classic candy.

Buckeye Pie Recipe Tips

  • Cream Cheese – We recommend using full fat cream cheese when making this recipe. Make sure it is softened to room temperature for a smooth and creamy texture.
  • Chocolate Layer – To create the classic buckeye candy look, allow the peanut butter layer to still be visible.
  • Melting Chocolate – Begin by melting the chocolate chips and heavy cream in the microwave in 30 second intervals. This allows for the chocolate to slowly melt in a medium bowl.
  • Chill Pie – Make sure to chill pie for at least 6 hours. We recommend to make it the day before serving so you can allow the pie to chill overnight.
  • Crushing Oreo Cookies – If you do not have a food processor to crush the Oreos. You can place them in a zip lock bag to crush. Use a rolling pin to crush the Oreos for best results.

Variations Ideas

  • Crust – Feel free to use a different crust to make this recipe. You can use a graham cracker crust or a store bought crust to easily make this pie.
  • Topping – Add another layer of topping by adding in sprinkles, crushed candy or nuts for a festive look.
  • Chocolate – We used chocolate chips to make this recipe. But feel free to use quality baking bar as a delicious substitute. Dark chocolate chips would also be a great substitute.

What is the Best Peanut Butter to use?

This Buckeye Pie is best made with regular creamy peanut butter. We do not recommend using natural peanut butter for this recipe.

Natural peanut butter could separate and not mix well with the other ingredients.
