Recipe Tips
- Milkshake Consistency – If your milkshake is too thick, add more milk. If the milkshake is too thin, then add more ice cream to thicken it up.
- Blend Milkshake – We recommend using a good blender to mix the ingredients. We like using a Vitamix blender. It is an investment but it blends the ice cream ingredients smooth and creamy.
- Red Food Coloring – Add the red food coloring to the milkshake until it is the red color that you prefer.
- Peppermint Candy – If you prefer, you can also use crushed candy canes to mix into the milkshake.
- Ice Cream – Feel free to change the vanilla ice cream in this recipe. Peppermint chip milkshake can be made with peppermint ice cream instead. We recommend using quality ice cream when making this recipe.
- Chocolate Chips – We love the added flavor of mini chocolate chips, but you can also use dark chocolate chips in this recipe. You can also use peppermint bark to instead of chocolate chips.
- Peppermint Extract – This is the key ingredient to give the milkshake the full peppermint flavor. Make sure to use peppermint extract and not mint extract.
- Soften Ice Cream – Before adding the vanilla ice cream to the blender, make sure it has time soften. We recommend leaving it on the counter for about 5 minutes and it will be the perfect texture to spoon into the blender.
- Milk – We prefer to use whole milk in this recipe, but you can also use milk alternative such as almond milk.
What are the Best Toppings?
We usually top our shake with whipped cream and crushed candy canes. We also love to place a cherry on top. You can easily drizzle with chocolate syrup and add a more chocolate chips.
How to Store Leftovers
This peppermint milkshake is best served immediately. If you do have leftovers, you can store in the freezer in a freezer safe glass.
How to Serve
- Mason jars – We always have a ton of these around and the milkshakes look pretty in them.
- Tall ice cream glasses -I love these old fashioned glasses. They remind me of what you would find at an ice cream shop.
